AUGUST in Ontario is generally warm and breezy. This is a popular time for outdoor activities and festivals, with many events taking place across Ontario. August is also recognized as Emancipation Month in Ontario, celebrating Black resilience and Black communities.

August is a great time for hiking, camping, cottaging and other outdoor pursuits, especially during the Civic Holiday long weekend.

International Student Mentorship Program

Recruiting mentors and mentees for our International Student Mentorship Program!
Attention Durham College International Students! We are currently recruiting mentors and mentees for our International Student Mentorship program for the upcoming Fall 2025 term! The program is designed to help first-semester international students in their journey at Durham College and life in Canada. Mentors and mentees are asked to meet (physically, virtually, email, etc.) at least 3 times in the Fall term (September to December). They may choose to meet more than that if they wish. Meetups will be determined between the mentor and their mentee.

Mentors will gain quality experience helping others, and mentees will benefit from being able to have their questions answered from those who have knowledge of and experience with Durham College and living in Canada. We will also host two mingling events, with refreshments and prizes, and provide recognition (that includes the opportunity to complete a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment, offered by the Career Development office at Durham College – a $30 value!) to mentors that successfully meet their mentees 3 or more times throughout the term.
