February is Black History Month. During Black History Month, events and festivities honour the legacy and achievements of Black people in Canada. In February, we also celebrate Lunar New Year, which began on January 29th and marked the start of the Year of the Snake. The festivities extend into early February, bringing vibrant cultural celebrations, delicious traditional foods, and a sense of renewal and hope for the year ahead. At the end of the month, Ramadan begins, marking a month of fasting and prayer for Muslims around the world.
In February, Canada is often blanketed in snow, creating picturesque landscapes perfect for winter activities like skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating. Despite the cold temperatures, the crisp, fresh air and the beauty of the snow-covered scenery make it a magical time of year.
You can refer to the video in Module 1 in your Home@DC International Student Orientation DC Connect course (you still have access!) about dressing for winters in Canada.
