June in Ontario is a beautiful and welcoming time for new international students. The weather becomes warm and sunny, with temperatures usually ranging from about 18°C to 25°C, making it perfect for exploring campuses and local communities. It’s also the start of summer, so parks, lakes, and outdoor festivals become lively and accessible, with long daylight hours to enjoy.
As you settle in, remember to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated, as the sun can be quite strong. You may also notice mosquitoes, especially in the evenings or near water, so having insect repellent can help you stay comfortable. Some students may experience seasonal allergies due to pollen, so be mindful if you are sensitive. With lakes and beaches opening up, it’s also important to follow water safety guidelines and only swim in designated areas.

Are you ready to make meaningful connections and get the most out of your college experience? First-semester international students can still register for our International Student Mentorship Program for Summer 2026 — and we’d love for you to be part of it!
Whether you're new to Canada or have already found your footing at Durham College, this program is designed to support first-semester international students as they navigate college life and settle into their new home.
How It Works:
Mentors and mentees are encouraged to connect at least three times between May and August — in person, online, by email, or however works best for you! You’re welcome to meet more often if you’d like. Scheduling is flexible and decided between each mentor-mentee pair.

Home@DC International Student Orientation (online orientation modules)
Classes have started, but you haven’t completed the Home@DC ISO modules yet?
We encourage you to complete the DC International Student Orientation modules as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
Even if you reviewed some of this information before arriving, it is much easier to understand once you have started your classes. The modules will help you better understand your courses, connect with your instructors, and find support services on campus.
They also highlight important policies, deadlines, and resources. Completing them in your first few weeks will help you feel more confident and comfortable in your new environment.

Housing Pulse – Protect Yourself from Housing Scams
Take a moment to protect yourself from housing scams. Unfortunately, they are becoming more common and often target students.
Never send money, deposits, or personal information (such as copies of your passport, SIN, or banking details) until you have:

Viewed the space in person or through a live virtual tour, and

Confirmed the legitimacy of the listing
Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true, landlords who rush you to pay, or listings with limited details or inconsistent information. Scammers may also refuse to meet, avoid showing the property, or ask for payment through unusual methods (e.g., gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency).
To reduce your risk:

Use trusted housing platforms, such as places4students.com

Verify the landlord’s identity and contact information

Compare the listing with similar properties in the area

Trust your instincts—if something feels off, it likely is
