November in Ontario marks the transition from autumn to winter. The vibrant fall colours begin to fade, and cooler temperatures set in, often bringing the first snowfall of the season. It's a great time to enjoy cozy indoor activities, warm drinks, and prepare for the upcoming winter holidays. Don’t forget to dress warmly and check out local events like holiday markets and light festivals that start popping up across the province! |

Living a Healthy Lifestyle – Stay Active Indoors This NovemberAs the weather gets colder and days grow shorter, it can be harder to stay physically active. But regular movement is essential for your physical and mental well-being, especially during busy academic months. Here are a few easy ways to stay active indoors:
-
Stretch Between Study Sessions: Take short breaks to stretch or walk around your space. It helps reduce stress and improve focus.
-
Try Online Workouts: Many free videos offer yoga, dance, or strength training you can do in your room, no equipment needed.
-
Use Campus Resources: Check free fitness classes HERE.
Staying active is about finding small ways to move more throughout your day. For more tips, visit Durham Region’s Healthy Routines Guide.

Remembrance Day is observed across Canada on November 11 to honour the men and women who have served—and continue to serve—in the Canadian Armed Forces. The date marks the anniversary of the Armistice agreement that ended the First World War in 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Canadians commemorate this day with two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m., wearing red poppies as a symbol of remembrance, and attending ceremonies at cenotaphs (war memorials) in cities and towns.
The poppy tradition was inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, written by Canadian soldier John McCrae. Remembrance Day is a time for reflection, gratitude, and learning about Canada's history of military service and peacekeeping. While it is a statutory holiday in some provinces, in Ontario it is observed but not a mandated day off work or school. veterans.gc.ca

International Student Mentorship Program
Recruiting mentors and mentees for our International Student Mentorship Program!
|
Attention Durham College International Students! We are currently recruiting mentors and mentees for our International Student Mentorship program. The program is designed to help first-semester international students in their journey at Durham College and life in Canada. Mentors and mentees are asked to meet (physically, virtually, email, etc.) at least 3 times in the Fall 2025 term (September to December). They may choose to meet more than that if they wish. Meetings and advising scheduling will be determined between the mentor and their mentee. Mentors will gain quality experience helping others, and mentees will benefit from being able to have their questions answered from those who have knowledge of and experience with Durham College and living in Canada. We will also host two mingling events, with refreshments and prizes, and provide recognition to mentors that successfully meet their mentees 3 or more times throughout the term. Details of this and the ability to sign up can be found here on our program webpage. Thank you for your interest!
